Position size calculator

Start from what you are willing to lose. Enter the balance, the share of it you risk, the entry and the stop, and the calculator gives the position size, the margin it needs at your leverage and whether the exchange would liquidate it before the stop.

How the size is worked out

Position size = (balance × risk per trade) ÷ |entry − stop|. The stop sets how far the price may move against you, the risk sets what that move may cost, and the size is whatever makes the two agree.

Leverage comes last. It decides the margin, position size divided by leverage, and with it where the exchange would liquidate an isolated position. The calculator checks that price against your stop; for each market’s own limits use the Hyperliquid or Lighter liquidation calculators.

Questions people ask

Decide what you are prepared to lose if the stop is hit, then divide it by the distance from entry to stop. With a $10,000 account, 1% risk and a stop $5 below a $100 entry, the position is $100 ÷ $5 = 20 units, or $2,000.

No. The stop and the risk decide the size; leverage only decides how much margin the exchange holds against it. Higher leverage frees margin but moves the liquidation price closer, which matters once it comes before the stop.

That is your call, and the calculator takes any figure. Many traders keep it to 1% or 2% of the account, so that a run of losing trades leaves the account able to recover.

If the exchange would liquidate the position before the price reaches your stop, the stop never fires and the loss is the margin instead. Lowering the leverage moves the liquidation price beyond the stop.

They add to it. Trading fees are paid on entry and exit, funding is paid or received while the position is open, and a stop in a fast market can fill below its price. The funding rate calculator shows what holding costs.
