The number behind the number

Every honest profit figure stands on a cost basis: what the coins actually cost you, fees included. Averaging is the intuitive convention and the right one for portfolio thinking; taxes usually want specific lots instead, which changes the reported gain without changing your money. The difference is worth understanding once, and the cost basis guide covers it in plain language.

Questions people ask

On purpose: the page stays instant, private and honest. You type the price you care about, entry, exit or a what-if, and the math runs on exactly that. Live prices belong in the tracker, where they update continuously.

Total spent divided by total amount: every buy contributes its amount times its price, the sum is divided by the coins accumulated. Fees can be folded in by entering the effective price you actually paid.

Not necessarily. Tax uses a lot method, FIFO, HIFO or your jurisdiction’s rule, applied to specific purchases, and average cost is only one convention. The calculator answers the portfolio question; the tax question has its own guide.

On round trips, yes: two sides at 0.1% is 0.2% of the position, and on tight trades that is often the difference between green and red. The calculator applies the fee to both legs.
