Lighter liquidation price calculator

Lighter liquidates in stages, so this calculator shows two prices: where partial liquidation starts, at the market’s maintenance margin, and where whatever is left gets closed out. Each market’s margin fractions come from Lighter’s public data and refresh every hour.

Lighter’s margin levels

Every Lighter market sets three fractions of position value: initial, maintenance and close-out, always in that order from largest to smallest. Initial margin caps the leverage, 2% on BTC for up to 50x. Between initial and maintenance an account is in pre-liquidation and can only make trades that neither grow a position nor weaken its margin.

Below maintenance, partial liquidation begins: open orders are cancelled and positions are closed through the order book until the account is healthy. Below close-out, the LLP takes over the positions still open, with auto-deleveraging as the backstop. The calculator solves the mark price at which each of the two thresholds is reached.

We checked it against the liquidation prices Lighter reported for open positions on 13 October 2026: the price Lighter shows is the partial-liquidation level, and the two matched. Margin fractions on this page were read from Lighter on October 13 at 13:21 UTC.

Questions people ask

Lighter liquidates in stages. When the account value falls below the maintenance margin requirement, partial liquidation starts; below the smaller close-out requirement, everything still open is taken over. The calculator shows the price for both.

In partial liquidation the engine cancels open orders and closes positions through the order book until the account is healthy again. In full liquidation, below the close-out margin, the LLP, Lighter’s liquidity pool that doubles as its insurance fund, takes over the remaining positions, and auto-deleveraging covers whatever the pool cannot take.

At the time of writing: 2% initial margin, so up to 50x, 1.2% maintenance and 0.8% close-out. Every market has its own three fractions, and the calculator reads the current ones.

The mark price. Every margin requirement on Lighter is position size times mark price times the market’s fraction, and account value is collateral plus unrealized profit and loss at mark.

An isolated position is treated as an account of its own, backed only by the margin allocated to it. The same stages apply, measured against that margin alone, so other positions cannot pull it under.
