How to track TON wallets (and why it is different)

TON is the chain most people acquired by accident. A Telegram wallet appeared, an airdrop landed, a game paid out, and suddenly there is a balance on a network you never consciously chose. Accidental or not, it is money, and money belongs in your portfolio total.

Two spellings, one account

The first TON surprise: the same account has more than one address spelling. The raw form is a workchain and hash; the friendly form is base64, and it comes in bounceable and non-bounceable flavors that look different but point at the same wallet. If you have seen an EQ address and a UQ address that seem unrelated, they can be the same account wearing two coats. A good tracker resolves the spelling and reads the account behind it.

Jettons, not ERC-20s

TON’s token standard is the jetton, and it works differently under the hood: each holder gets their own jetton wallet contract rather than a row in one big contract’s ledger. You do not need to care about the plumbing, but it explains why generic EVM tools see nothing on TON: the data model is genuinely different, and reading it takes native support, not an adapter.

• Toncoin, the native balance that pays for everything on the chain.
• Jettons: stablecoins, project tokens, the airdrops that started half these wallets.
• Staking via pools, where TON is delegated to validators and earns while staying yours.
• NFTs, which on TON include Telegram usernames and numbers, some of them worth real money.
